چکیده

We analyze here a pure greedy hot-potato routing strategy on a two-dimensional mesh of n nodes. We speci cally study the case of n packets, originating one per node, to be delivered at random uniform destinations. Each packet attempts to follow the shortest path leading rst to the destination row/column (whichever is closest) and then to the actual destination node. A de ection policy is adopted to solve con icts. We prove that all packets are delivered to the destinations in average time O(nlogn). The average is taken over all possible destination functions. No average case analysis of pure greedy hot-potato routing was known up to now.

Near-Optimal Hot-Potato Routing on Trees

In hot-potato (deflection) routing, nodes in the network have no buffers for packets in transit, which causes conflicting packets to be deflected away from their destinations. We study one-to-many batch routing problems on arbitrary tree topologies. We present two hot-potato routing algorithms, one deterministic and one randomized, whose routing times are asymptotically near-optimal (within pol...

A Study on Distributed Structures

2 Preface In distributed and parallel computing environments, there are many computational problems that require efficient communication and coordination between the processes. For such problems there have been proposed several distributed structures, each designed to solve a particular problem or a class of problems. The distributed structures take into account the particularities of the speci...

Greedy Õ(C +D) Hot-Potato Routing on Trees

In hot-potato (deflection) routing, nodes in the network have no buffers for packets in transit. A hotpotato routing algorithm is greedy if packets are advanced from their sources toward their destinations whenever possible. The dilation D is the longest distance a packet has to travel; the congestion C is the maximum number of packets that traverse any edge. The routing time of a routing-algor...

Analysis of One-Buffer Deflection Routing in Ultra-Fast Optical Mesh Networks

The steady state behavior of regular two-connected multihop networks in homogeneous load under hot-potato and single-buffer deflection routing is analyzed for ultrafast optical applications. Manhattan Street Network and ShuffleNet are compared in terms of throughput, delay and deflection probability both analytically and by simulation. It is analytically verified that single-buffer deflection r...

Multipacket Hot-Potato Routing on Processor Arrays

In this paper, we consider the problems of multipacket batch and balanced routing on d-dimensional (constant d 2) torus and mesh-connected processor arrays. We present new \hot-potato" routing algorithms which achieve the best known average-case and worst-case time bounds for both problems on all such networks. In particular, our results include the following: 1. Algorithms that route almost al...
